10/1 - My Elmo Weekend

On Sunday, Mommy and Daddy surprised me with tickets to see Sesame Street Live - Elmo Makes Music. This was my first concert so I had no idea what I was in for. I was totally aaaawwwed!!

I loved the show!!! The first half, which was about an hour long, was the best. During the second half I got a bit restless and fussy, but I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE because it was clearly was evident by the sounds of tantrums and early departures of parents and their kids ;-).

Another great weekend with Mommy and Daddy!!!!

9/30 - My Elmo Weekend

This weekend was fabulastic!!! It was all about Elmo. Saturday I took daddy and mommy to the National Book Festival on the Smithsonian Mall.

There were lots of authors there speaking and signing their books but the best one of all was Elmo and KEVIN CLASH (Elmo's puppeteer). Out of all the lines to see the authors this line was THE longest but we waited and waited and waited...and boy was it worth it!!!

(Truth be told I think mommy was even MORE excited than I was.)

After our visit with Elmo Daddy and I went on the Merry-go-Round. Daddy said I was scared the entire time.

...but that didn't matter I wasn't ready to get off!!! So, I decided to show out.

But I quickly got over it, got my act together and enjoyed the rest of my day.

9/23 - Intnl Kids Festival Pt. 2

Here I am at the Instrutment Petting Zoo getting familiar with a tuba and tamborine

One of my favorite parts of the day was DANCING on stage. They were playing music from the old days like "You make me wanna SHOUT" (nana and pop-pop music) but we LOVED it as you can see in the pictures below.

9/23 - Intnl Kids Festival Pt. 1

Saturday was the International Kids Festival at Wolf Trap National Park in Virigina where international youth perform from around the world! This year's guests hailed from Hawaii, South Korea, Turkey, and Qatar! There's also crafts and workshops. I had a blast as you'll see from the pics below.

This group did a dance from Turkey and later took pictures with the audience.

I also got my face painted. Can you tell what it is?

It's a butterfly!!!

I also made a mask,

and a mini-mini quilt (one day I'll be able to make beautiful quilts like my nana.)

9/10 - Kennedy Center Open House

This weekend was full of things to do, so I decided to take mom and dad to the Open House festival at the Kennedy Center
where they have performances, activities, and events for the whole family.

This year's focus was on “Arts Along the Gulf Coast Highway,” with sights and sounds from East Texas and Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle. My favorite was dancing to the New Orleans funk of The Wild Magnolias Mardi Gras "Indians".

That's them dancing in the background.

After we left the Kennedy Center we went to the Arts on Foot Festival with various artists and restaurant samples. I had ice cream and guacomole..yummy. We didn't take any pictures.

The festival was near the National Portrait Gallery so we decided to go in. Here is my picture with Toni Morrison (later we realized pictures are phohibited...oops).

9/16 - Good Times" at the CBC

I decided to take mom and dad to the CBC - Congressional Black Caucus Expo on Saturday. There's entertainment, black-owned businesses, and lots of energy. I met some new friends while dancing to an african singing artist (can't remember his name).

I also racked up on some goods. I got a new music CD written/arranged by an african american school teacher that will help me learn my ABC's. The Cheerio's company gave me free boxes of cheerio's and a cheerio bear. The nice business owner of Kip & Knoodle gave me a free hand puppet and safety strap cover which I loved.

I met Michelle Singletary, writer for the Washington Post's Color of Money and tv host of the same. (Mommy got a little financial advice from her as well). And guess who else I saw??

Thelma from Good Times who was there for a book signing (she hasn't aged a bit). Dad started to get one of his "hunger headaches" so we grabbed a bite to eat. While we were sitting at the table, a nice man who worked in the cafeteria said I reminded him of his daughters and gave me an order of french fries which I loved.

When we left the CBC we headed over to the Silver Spring Jazz Festival. There were LOTS of people and I loved the music especially the Marcus Johnson Project.

We wanted to stay for Spyro Gyra but it was getting late and we were all tired.
